The Goldbug Collection

"Mini" Mariana Hay works with her sister, mom, and aunt at their 100+ year old store (Croghans) on King Street. Mariana (3rd generation) challenged her daughter, "Mini" Mariana to design a line of jewelry that would be something unique to Charleston and their store. She wanted the line to be something that both locals and people all over would enjoy. After some thinking, and living in an old house in Charleston, the idea struck Mini, "Cockroaches!" or as they are more politely called "Palmetto Bugs". She gilded her first bug and made a necklace with pearls (at her kitchen counter) just to test the waters and see what customers would say. The first necklace sold that day and she has been developing and expanding the line ever since.
